“Honor and Sacrifice: The Roy Matsumoto Story” was screened May 9 at the Japanese American National Museum. Matsumoto, who died last year just short of his 101stbirthday, served with the famed Merrill’s Marauders during World War II in Burma, where he used his Japanese language skills and military training to save his battalion. One of his brothers also fought for the U.S., but the other three served in the Japanese military, and his parents and sisters were living in Hiroshima when it was bombed. Associate producer Karen Matsumoto, his daughter, and producer Lucy Ostrander discussed the film and signed copies of the DVD after the screening.
