Fumiko Carole Fujita and Jeffrey Gee Chin, executive producer and director, respectively, of the narrative film “Lil Tokyo Reporter,” will be keynote speakers at the Paul Chikahisa Memorial Lecture and 16th annual API Scholarship Reception at USC with the theme “Bridging the Gap: Celebrating the API Experience Across Generations” on Thursday April 3, at the Ronald Tutor Center, Grand Ballroom A/B (basement), at 3607 Trousdale Pkwy. in Los Angeles.
The reception supports the social workers of tomorrow by funding four endowed scholarships to USC School of Social Work students. This is the only endowed scholarship effort by students at the school. Scholarship recipients are students who are involved in the API community and are pursuing their education to further engage as knowledgeable and highly trained social workers.
The lecture will include a screening of “Lil Tokyo Reporter,” which honors the major accomplishments of Sei Fujii, civil rights advocate for the Japanese American community. The cast includes Academy Award winner Chris Tashima (“Visas and Virtue”), Keiko Agena (“Gilmore Girls”) and Eijiro Ozaki (“Letters from Iwo Jima”).
The lecture and screening, which are free and open to the public, start at 4:30 p.m. The reception is at 6 p.m. and tickets are $50 general, $35 for students.
