NEWPORT BEACH — The kisah benar cerita lucahWorld Affairs Council of Orange County presents a Veterans Day luncheon honoring Nisei soldiers on Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at American Legion Post 291, 215 15thSt. in Newport Beach.
“Join us for a special Veterans Day celebration as we honor all our military veterans and highlight the remarkable contributions of the Nisei soldiers,” organizers said. “These second-generation Japanese American soldiers served with honor and distinction during World War II, despite facing immense challenges at home.”
The Nisei soldiers fought in Europe with the 100thInfantry Battalion/442ndRegimental Combat Team, suffering heavy casualties in battles such as the rescue of the “Lost Battalion” of Texas in France’s Vosges Mountains. They earned thousands of decorations, including 21 Medals of Honor. Others served as translators and interpreters in Asia and the Pacific as well as the postwar U.S. occupation of Japan. In 2011, the Nisei soldiers were collectively honored with the Congressional Gold Medal.

About the Host
David Ono is the co-anchor for ABC 7 Eyewitness News at 4 and 6 p.m. and was recently named Anchor of the Year in the U.S. by Broadcast and Cable. He joined ABC 7 in 1996 and during that time has witnessed history worldwide, covering Hurricane Katrina, Haiti’s earthquake and Japan’s tsunami. He traveled across Europe and Asia chronicling brave acts of the Nisei soldiers from World War II.
Ono has attended two royal weddings, Prince William’s in London in 2011 and Prince Harry’s in Windsor in 2018. He’s tracked drug runners through Central America and reported live from Boston after the tragic marathon bombing. He’s covered terrorism from Paris not only in 2015 as the historic city was crippled with fear, but also in 2002 after a plot to bring down the Eiffel Tower was foiled.
Ono has trained with the FBI, the elite Los Angeles Sheriff’s SWAT team, ICE and the Los Angeles Port Police. President Obama invited him to the White House three times twice for exclusive one-on-one interviews and once to make a speech about inclusion in America.
Ono has extensively covered the pope. He witnessed white smoke at the Vatican twice, in 2005 for the selection of Pope Benedict the 16thand 2013 for the selection of Pope Francis. He also covered Francis’ historic visit to the U.S. in 2015 and his visit to Mexico in 2016.
One has produced multiple award-winning documentaries, two of which have made their way to the Smithsonian Institution. He has won 12 Edward R. Murrow Awards, 32 Emmys, two RTDNA (Radio Television Digital News Association) National Unity Awards, six AAJA (Asian American Journalists Association) National Journalism Awards, and the Distinguished Journalist Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. He has also received both Journalist of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the L.A. Press Club.
Ono has traveled across the country to present “Defining Courage,” a multimedia program honoring the Nisei veterans, including live performances and footage from the World War II battlefield sites.
