Especially in the LGBTQ community, as revealed in a new campaign called "Real Conversations of Grindr," put together by the HIV Foundation Queensland in Australia.
SEE ALSO: Chinese school isolating its HIV-positive students just shows we need better awarenessThe campaign got people to read real-life exchanges on the gay dating app Grindr on camera. It starts off with the usual titillating fare, but then descends into discrimination and hatred.
"You should be ashamed, you're a walking disease," reads one comment. "Blocking. Go f**k yourself, because no one else will," reads another.
Warning, the video contains explicit language.
Grindr and other dating apps are "unfortunately provide a breeding ground for people to use anonymity as a cover to commit discrimination and stigmatise," according to the campaign's website.
"For people living with HIV, the stigma can often be more damaging than the virus."
It's a stigma that one day will hopefully not be there, through education -- and a little more understanding.
