Boyle Heights Community Partners presents the third annual Nikkei Celebration in Boyle Heights on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 5 to 10 p.m.
The parade begins at 5 p.m. on Saratoga in front of Tenrikyo Church, 2727 E. First St., and ends in front of Otomisan, 2506 E. First St.
Come delve into the rich history of Japanese culture in Boyle Heights. The celebration will showcase the enduring legacy of Otomisan, the only continuously operating authentic Japanese restaurant in the same location since 1956.
Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles Kenko Sone will deliver a message to open the program, followed by performances by Hikari Taiko and Boyle Heights Neighborhood Music School and an appearance by the 2023 Nisei Week Court. Additionally, there will be presentations from various groups and businesses showcasing their products and services.
The event will conclude with ondo dancing to celebrate another year of uniting the community and sharing the history of Nikkei families, friends, and neighbors.
