Artist, author and educator Art Nomura will give a presentation on “Mizuko: True Spirit” on Tuesday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Mar Vista Branch Library, 12006 Venice Blvd, Los Angeles.
Nomura’s 2022 book is about the extraordinary life of his paternal grandmother. When the Takahashis, one of the wealthiest families in western Japan, lost their fortune in 1900, 5-year-old Mizuko went from riches to rags. A fascinating personal view of an immigrant overcoming racism, imprisonment during World War II, sexism, spousal abuse, and poverty.
Walk-ins are welcome. For more information, call (310) 390-3454, email [email protected] or visit http://lapl.org.
