Little Tokyo Towers, 455 E. Third St. (between Central and San Pedro), Los Angeles, will hold a rededication ceremony and open house on Saturday, Oct. 26.
The ceremony will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and the open house will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The newest installation by local artist Nancy Uyemura will be on view.
Attendees are asked to use metered street parking or nearby paid lots.
The 16-story, 301-unit apartment building was built by Little Tokyo community organizations in 1975 to provide seniors 62 and over with an affordable place to call home when they retired.
Little Tokyo Towers has undergone a $50.7 million rehabilitation to modernize its apartments and building systems, including bringing it up to earthquake safety standards; adding energy-efficient cyclonic water heaters, a cool roof and new elevators; and making upgrades to the unit interiors and kitchens.
“Little Tokyo is a symbol of hope and resilience in our community,” Bob Kawahara, president of the Little Tokyo Towers board and legacy owner, told Affordable HousingFinance. “It addressed the ongoing need for affordable housing while embracing innovation and community-centered solutions. The preservation efforts undertaken at Little Tokyo Towers signify a profound revitalization of essential housing resources for Los Angeles seniors.”
